Description

The Varas is a 50cm tall chrome cylinder pendant with an integrated 5W LED delivering 450 lumens at 3000K through a frosted opal acrylic diffuser. The polished chrome outer tube is 8cm in diameter and conceals the LED light source, creating a continuous vertical column of soft ambient light without visible bulbs or glare points.

Designed for hallways, kitchen islands, over dining tables and in bathroom zones above vanities or baths (IP20 rating limits to Zone 3 only), the Varas works individually as an accent or in multiples clustered at staggered heights. The adjustable cable allows installation between 65cm and 140cm drop, giving flexibility across different ceiling heights. The dimmable LED pairs with standard trailing-edge dimmers to adjust output from full brightness to a low-level glow.

The reflective chrome finish mirrors surrounding surfaces and colour tones, making the pendant recede visually in bright daylight while the opal diffuser provides contrast and definition. The 0.78kg weight fits standard UK ceiling roses without additional support, and the 8cm slim profile keeps the pendant unobtrusive in narrow circulation spaces or over small dining tables. The 3000K colour temperature offers a warm white output that sits between clinical cool white and the amber tone of traditional tungsten.

The Varas comes from Schuller, a Spanish lighting manufacturer producing modern, minimalist fittings since 1969. The pendant is Class 1 earthed and rated IP20 for dry indoor use.

Is the Varas dimmable?

Yes. The integrated 5W LED is dimmable and compatible with most standard trailing-edge dimmers. Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific model — test before final installation or contact us for confirmed compatible dimmers.

What ceiling height does it suit?

The adjustable cable allows the pendant to hang between 65cm and 140cm from the ceiling. For over a dining table or kitchen island, a typical drop is 70-80cm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating limits the Varas to Zone 3 in bathrooms (areas more than 60cm from a bath or shower enclosure). It cannot be installed directly above a bath, within a shower cubicle, or within 60cm horizontally of a water source.

What light output does 450 lumens provide?

450 lumens is roughly equivalent to a traditional 40W incandescent bulb. The Varas provides soft ambient light rather than task illumination, suitable for accent lighting, hallways, or mood lighting in living areas.
