Description

Small, tapered and clear, this is a candle lamp for fittings that put the bulb on show. The E27 cap is the larger of the screw fittings, so it goes straight into holders that would otherwise take an old-fashioned candle bulb. It draws 4W and gives 470 lumens of warm white at 2700K: soft, slightly golden and easy to sit with of an evening. Because the outer is clear rather than opal, the shape of the lamp reads properly through a thin shade or between the arms of a chandelier.

We use candle lamps like this in chandeliers, multi-arm ceiling lights and wall lights with upward-facing holders, where a rounder bulb looks bulky against slim metalwork. They suit table lamps with narrow shades for much the same reason. It dims, which is worth having in a dining room or a bedroom, though the dimmer needs to be one made for low-wattage LED loads and is not supplied with the lamp. Where a fitting holds several bulbs at once, we would change them all together so the light stays even across the arms.

It carries a three year warranty. Clear lamps do show dust, so a dry cloth over the body now and then keeps the light looking bright; wait until it has gone cold and hold it at the cap rather than the tip. Keep it to dry indoor rooms and a normal household supply, and check your holder is a screw type before ordering. In a chandelier or a pair of wall lights we would fit this in every holder rather than mixing it with pear or globe shapes, because the eye picks up the difference at once when the bulbs are on view.
