Description

This is a compact bay light in the UFO style: a round black body 26cm across that pushes a broad, even wash of light straight down. The integrated LED draws 150W and gives a crisp white at 5000K, the sort of clean light that keeps colours, labels and floor markings easy to read. Output is fixed rather than dimmed, so it is simply on or off. We reach for the wider beam, as here, when the ceiling is high but the job is covering ground side to side rather than dropping a tight pool onto one spot.

It belongs in the tall, working rooms of a building: warehouse aisles, workshops, agricultural buildings, double-height garages, gyms and stockrooms, along with commercial kitchens and wash-down areas where the air carries dust or moisture. The housing is sealed to a level that shrugs off dust and jets of water, which is why it copes where an open fitting would clog or corrode. If you are replacing older metal halide or sodium bay lights, this is the sort of light we point people towards, since one unit covers a generous span of floor and comes to full brightness the moment it is switched.

The body is finished in black throughout, and the driver sits inside the unit rather than hanging separately as a box. Keep it working by isolating the supply and wiping the face over with a dry cloth now and then; dust settling on the lens quietly steals output, and solvents should stay away from it. It carries a three year warranty. The same black body runs through the rest of the range in narrower and wider beams, in a warmer white, and in a larger size with more output.
