Description

This square slate coaster carries a proud tribute to an uncle, set out in grey lettering on a black face. The words read 'This Uncle is the man, the myth, the legend', followed by '100% original, admired by many' and, on a banner along the foot, 'best of the best', with small flourishes and a row of stars between the lines. It measures 10cm across each side and 1cm deep, a size that suits most mugs, cups and tumblers. The edges are left rough and natural, which gives the piece a rugged, characterful look beside the neat, bold lettering.

We think it is the sort of piece that earns a permanent spot beside his favourite chair, on his desk at home or at work, or on the side table where his evening cup of tea always lands. The black and grey sit well with dark wood, leather and the muted colours of a study or snug, and it looks just as much at home in a den or beside the television. Because the words make it plain who it is meant for, it is a lovely way to tell an uncle he matters, and a reminder he will see every time he reaches for his drink.

At 1cm thick it is a sturdy, solid piece with a flat face that gives a cup a steady place to rest. To keep it looking its best, wipe it over with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally, and avoid harsh cleaners or scourers that could wear the grey lettering. Set it under his morning coffee, or wrap it up with a bag of good coffee or a bar of his favourite chocolate for a small present that raises a smile every time he sets his mug down.

Frequently Asked

How big is the coaster?

It measures 10cm across each side and 1cm deep. That square is large enough for most everyday mugs, cups and tumblers.

What words are on the coaster?

It reads 'This Uncle is the man, the myth, the legend', then '100% original, admired by many'. The words 'best of the best' sit on a banner at the foot.

What colour is the slate coaster?

The coaster is black. All of its lettering, flourishes and stars are picked out in grey, a pairing that sits well with dark wood and leather.

How do I clean the coaster?

Wipe it over with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid harsh cleaners or scourers, because they could wear away the grey lettering over time.

Is it a good gift for an uncle?

Yes. The words name an uncle directly, so it makes a thoughtful gift on its own or wrapped up with a bag of good coffee or some chocolate.

What are the edges of the coaster like?

The edges are left rough and natural rather than cut perfectly straight. This gives the coaster a rugged look next to its neat, bold lettering.
