Tournai 1 Light Medium Outdoor Pillar Light - Bronze

The Tournai is a 1.1m outdoor pillar light cast from solid aluminium with a bronze finish and clear seedy glass panels across four faces. The pillar head houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) behind the textured glass, which diffuses light outward while the decorative cast detailing — scrollwork at the corners, a finial crown and fluted column — adds architectural presence to gate posts, driveway entrances and garden boundaries.

Designed for permanent outdoor installation, the Tournai carries an IP44 rating against rain and moisture, making it suitable for exposed positions including coastal driveways and open garden paths. The 191mm square footprint suits standard gate post caps and masonry piers, and the aluminium construction resists corrosion without the weight penalty of cast iron. The bronze finish weathers naturally over time, developing a darker patina in sheltered areas and lighter wear on exposed edges.

The seedy glass texture is produced by introducing air bubbles into the molten glass during casting, giving each panel a slightly different pattern of internal inclusions. When lit, this texture breaks up the bulb filament or LED chip visually and spreads light more evenly than plain clear glass. The Tournai pairs well with traditional, Victorian and Arts and Crafts architecture, and the bronze tone sits comfortably alongside period brickwork, sandstone and York stone paving.

What bulb does the Tournai take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-10W and 2200K-2700K to match the period aesthetic of the bronze and seedy glass.

Can it withstand coastal weather?

The IP44 rating protects against rain and moisture, and the hand-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than steel or iron. In coastal locations the bronze finish will develop a natural patina more quickly due to salt air — this is part of the intended weathering process rather than a defect.

How is it mounted?

The 191mm square base is designed to sit on top of a gate post, masonry pier or purpose-built plinth. The fitting is wired from below, with the cable entering through the base and concealed inside the column. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended for outdoor mains connections.

Does the glass need cleaning?

The seedy glass texture traps less surface dirt than plain glass but will accumulate dust and water marks over time. Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and mild soapy water, then rinse and dry. Avoid abrasive cleaners that might scratch the glass or bronze finish.
