Tonic Rectangular Canopy Kit 85cm Long - Black

The four hole version of the Tonic canopy is a long, narrow black plate that gathers a run of pendant drops into one tidy line. Its apertures are spaced evenly along the length, so the lights sit at regular intervals rather than bunching in the middle. The plate is shallow, staying close against the ceiling so it reads as a dark band rather than a box. It holds no lamp of its own; the pendants hung beneath it do the lighting.

It comes into its own above a long dining table, a kitchen island or a run of worktop, where several small pendants do more than one large fitting. We also like it in a hallway, taking a line of glass drops along the space instead of a single centre light. It suits anyone building an arrangement from separate parts and choosing the shades themselves, since the spacing of the drops and the height they finish at are yours to set. That is why we point people here for bar seating and long tables. The Tonic linear pendants share the black finish if you would rather buy something ready assembled.

Black across the face and the returned edges, it stays quiet against a pale ceiling and all but vanishes against a dark one. Dust gathers on the upper face more than anywhere else; with the power off, a dry duster run along the length is all it asks for, and we would keep sprays and solvents well away from the paintwork so the black stays even. It carries a one year warranty. It measures 850mm long by 80mm wide, with a depth of 30mm, so it stays close to the ceiling line.

No. It is a non-electric accessory, so the pendants and their lamps are chosen and bought separately.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry indoor rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms and hallways.

What is the best way to keep it clean?

Switch the circuit off first, then run a dry cloth or soft duster along the top face and the edges. Avoid polish and solvent cleaners on the black finish.
