Description

Tomelle is a square recessed LED downlight in white, with an aluminium body and a white plastic shade around the light. The square plate is 9.3cm long and 9.3cm wide, with a round insert at its centre. The LED is integrated, drawing 4.7W and giving 440lm, so there is no separate bulb to buy or replace. It carries an IP20 rating, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms such as living rooms, hallways, landings and bedrooms.

Because the colour temperature runs from a warm 2700K to a cool 6500K, one set of downlights can give a soft, cosy glow in the evening and a crisper white for reading or working. It also changes colour (RGB), so a lounge, dining room or landing can take a splash of colour for a party or a calmer tint late at night. It is dimmable and controlled by an app, and it also works with a remote control, which is sold separately. The white square trim sits neatly against a white or pale ceiling, and a row of them along a wall gives an even wash of light across pictures and shelves.

The body is aluminium and the shade is white plastic, both finished in white to match. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and has no switch of its own, so it is switched at the wall. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Before ordering, measure the space above the ceiling: each downlight needs a cut-out of 8cm and a recess depth of 7cm, and checking that first saves a wasted trip up the ladder.

We would not put it there. It is rated IP20, which means it is for indoor rooms that stay dry, such as living rooms, hallways and bedrooms, and not for bathrooms or outdoors.
