Description

A planter, 50cm tall, in soft grey. At 33cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. Indoors a planter is decoration; outdoors it is structure, marking a doorway or a corner the way a piece of furniture would inside.

A cool colour recedes: it makes a piece read as further away and a room as larger, which is why cool tones suit small spaces better than their reputation for coldness suggests. Polyethylene is moulded as one piece with no seam and no coating, so there is nothing to chip, peel or rust — the colour goes through the material rather than sitting on it. Rattan is a climbing palm, steamed and bent rather than cut and joined, which is why the curves are continuous and the whole piece weighs so little. Every length differs slightly in colour, so no two pieces match exactly.

Allow a pot two or three centimetres wider than the nursery pot it is replacing, not more — over-potting drowns roots faster than under-watering starves them.

Dusting is all it asks for, with a damp cloth on the finish and nothing solvent or abrasive.
