Description

This is warm white LED tape supplied on a 5m reel, the strip itself only 10mm across, with a dense run of small diodes giving a line of light rather than a row of visible points. The colour sits at 2700K, the soft yellow-toned white that suits living rooms and kitchens in the evening. The diodes are integral, so there is nothing to replace over its life, and it is not dimmable, which means it is happiest where you want a single settled level of light at the flick of a switch. It runs on a low voltage supply and needs a matching constant voltage driver, sized to the length you intend to use.

We reach for tape like this for indirect light: along the underside of kitchen wall units, above a run of shelving, tucked into an alcove or a coving detail, or lifting the inside of a wardrobe. Because the light comes off it in a broad spread, it fills a surface evenly instead of throwing hard pools the way a line of small spots would. It suits anyone building light into joinery, and it is a sensible first choice if you are lighting a worktop and want the source itself out of sight. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and damp.

The strip is flexible, with a white backing that all but vanishes against pale timber, plaster or gloss cabinetry. Looked after, it asks very little: isolate the circuit, then run a dry cloth or a soft brush along the tape now and again, since a film of dust on the diodes quietly steals brightness. It carries a three year warranty.
