The Tilston is a single wall spotlight with a round steel wall plate, a short arm and a domed, cylindrical shade, all finished in a soft sand colour. It is a compact light: 12cm long, 15.5cm high and standing 12cm out from the wall, so it sits neatly beside a mirror or above a desk without crowding the space. It takes one E14 bulb up to a maximum of 40W, and the bulb is not included, so you can choose the colour of light that suits the room. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms, and never in a bathroom or outdoors.

Because the shade tilts on its pivot, this wall spotlight lets you aim the light exactly where it is useful: across a chest of drawers, onto a favourite picture or down over a reading chair. We like a pair either side of a mirror in a bedroom or hallway, where the shades can be angled to light your face rather than dazzle you. It suits a study or living room too. The sand colour is a warm, quiet neutral that sits comfortably with pale oak, linen and off-white walls, and it reads softer than plain white or black against a painted wall.

The body is steel, a strong and hard-wearing material that suits a light you will adjust by hand from time to time. Packed, it weighs 0.725KG. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so it works from your existing light switch. It runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains supply, and as a wired-in light it should be installed by a qualified electrician; the installation instructions come as a download. One practical note: buy an E14 bulb of 40W or less when you order, as one is not supplied.
