Description

The Tarnwold in copper patina is a domed wall light, 255mm tall by 140mm wide, projecting 138mm from the wall. Copper takes the patina in a warmer, pinker direction than brass or bronze, and the textured surface keeps it from looking like a plated finish. The dome hoods a single E27 lamp so the light falls downward in a soft arc over the wall below. It weighs 1.5kg and the backplate holds the whole fitting tight to the plaster, which helps in a corridor where clearance is tight.

Warm copper works hard in kitchens and dining rooms, next to timber, terracotta or cream, and it holds its own against green and blue paint. We would fit a pair of these sconces either side of a kitchen chimney breast, or a single one beside a dresser. In a bedroom, one on each side of the bed gives light for reading without cluttering the tables, and in a hallway a run of three marks the length of the corridor.

It is metal throughout, with the copper patina carried across the dome and backplate, and a single E27 LED bulb of around 10W inside. It is dimmable with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer, which suits a bedroom or a snug. Dust with a dry, soft cloth and leave polish and metal cleaner in the cupboard, because both will strip the aged surface. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms only. As a Class 2 fitting it is double insulated and does not need an earth. Tarnwold also comes as a pendant, so the same dome can run overhead and on the wall.
