Description
The Tarnwold in bronze patina is a domed wall light measuring 255mm tall, 140mm wide and 138mm deep. Bronze gives the patina a darker, browner cast than brass, so the fitting settles into a dark wall instead of standing off it. The dome shields a single E27 lamp and pushes the light downward, which keeps the source out of your sightlines when you walk past. The surface is textured rather than smooth, and at 1.5kg the whole thing is light to handle and simple to position.
Dark bronze suits rooms that already lean moody, so a hallway painted in a deep colour, a snug or a study with dark shelving all work. We would run two or three of these wall sconces up a staircase at even spacing, or use a pair in a bedroom to keep the bedside tables clear. It also works in a dining room, mounted low enough to light the wall rather than the table, so the room glows from the edges.
It is metal throughout with the bronze patina applied over the dome and the backplate. One E27 LED bulb of around 10W does the lighting, and it dims with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth only, because patina finishes lose their depth if you take polish or cream cleaner to them. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry indoor rooms, and as a Class 2 fitting it is double insulated with no earth required. The same dome comes as a Tarnwold pendant, and in antique brass and copper patina if you want lighter metal.

Frequently Asked
How does bronze differ from the brass version?
Bronze patina reads darker and browner, so it recedes into deep wall colours where antique brass would stand out.
What size is it?
255mm tall, 140mm wide, and 138mm out from the wall. It weighs 1.5kg.
Which bulb does it use?
One E27 bulb, with an LED of around 10W suiting the downward throw of the dome.
Does it need an earthed supply?
It is a Class 2 double insulated fitting, so no earth is required at the fitting itself.
How do I clean it?
Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid polish and cream cleaners, which will flatten the patina texture.
Can I fit it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, so bathrooms and other damp spaces are out.
