Description

This hanging Christmas tree decoration is a round glass bauble wrapped in broad swirling bands of deep red and rich green, each band edged with a fine line of gold glitter. The swirl winds from the gold cap down to the base, so the stripes seem to turn as the bauble moves gently on its branch. The surface has a soft, matt, velvety look rather than a high shine, which gives the two colours real depth beneath the tree lights. It measures 17cm high, 8cm wide and 8cm deep, a generous size that holds its own among smaller ornaments.

Red and green are the colours of a traditional Christmas, and this bauble suits a tree dressed in that classic palette, whether it stands in a sitting room, a hallway or a busy family kitchen. Hang it at eye level, where its gold lines catch the glow of the fairy lights, and set it beside plain gold or red baubles to let the swirl stand out. It works just as well on a garland along the mantelpiece, tied to a wreath, or hung from a branch of twigs in a vase for a smaller festive display on a sideboard or windowsill.

The bauble is made of glass and topped with a gold cap and hanging loop, with a fine gold thread attached so it is ready to go straight onto the tree. As with any glass decoration, handle it gently and hang it from a sturdy branch where it will not be knocked by passing elbows or curious pets. To keep it looking its best, dust it lightly with a soft dry cloth, then at the end of the season wrap it in tissue paper and store it in a padded box. It makes a thoughtful little Christmas gift tucked into a festive hamper, and we think it brings a warm, traditional note to any tree.
