Description

The Sussex is a 406mm diameter semi-flush ceiling light with three E27 bulb positions housed inside a white fabric drum shade, suspended from a brushed nickel canopy by three arms and a central clear glass column. The 381mm drop between ceiling and shade base positions the fitting closer to the ceiling than a full pendant, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above where a flush mount would feel too compressed and a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms that need ambient overhead lighting without dominating the ceiling line, the Sussex balances the formality of a traditional semi-flush with the softer silhouette of a fabric shade. The white hardback drum shade diffuses light from the three bulbs (sold separately, each up to 60W), reducing glare while still casting enough illumination for a 12-16m² room. The clear glass column at the centre adds a vertical accent that breaks up the horizontal plane of the shade and canopy.

The brushed nickel finish on the metalwork provides a mid-tone neutral that pairs with cooler greys, whites and contemporary palettes, as well as warmer taupes and beiges in transitional interiors. The fabric shade sits on a metal frame that prevents sagging and maintains the drum profile over time. The three-arm suspension distributes the fitting's weight evenly, keeping the shade level without additional adjustment after installation.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take?

The Sussex takes three E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 381mm drop works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above. The semi-flush design sits closer to the ceiling than a standard pendant, making it suitable for bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms with typical residential ceiling heights.

Is the fabric shade removable for cleaning?

Yes. The hardback drum shade sits on a metal frame that can be detached from the suspension arms for cleaning. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or lint roller, or spot-clean gently with a barely-damp cloth if needed.

Can it be used with a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable E27 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs vary in dimmer compatibility, so check the bulb packaging before pairing with a dimmer.
