Description

The Sunset bases are a family of round recessed bezels, and this is one of the smaller ones: a plain circular rim in gold, set flush with the ceiling line so the aperture reads as a neat disc of light rather than a fitting. The exposed ring measures 85mm across, which keeps it quiet in a ceiling and lets several sit in a run without the eye counting them. It is non-electric, with no lamp holder or wiring of its own, so the light source comes from the fitting it is paired with.

We reach for the smaller Sunset sizes where a ceiling needs light spread evenly and nothing else drawing attention: kitchen worktops, a hallway, the length of a landing, or a row washing the front of tall shelving. Gold suits rooms where the other metalwork is warm, brass taps and handles, or a darker scheme that would look stark with white trims. It is also a sensible choice in a smaller room, where a wider bezel can start to look heavy overhead.

The gold finish is even across the rim, and the base itself is very light in the hand. To keep it looking right, dust the visible ring with a dry cloth when you do the ceiling, and keep cream cleaners, bleach and solvents away from it, as they will dull the finish. It carries a three year warranty. We stock this size in black and white as well, and the same three finishes run through the larger Sunset bases, so a single scheme can mix a bigger aperture over a dining table with these smaller ones in the corridor beyond.
