Description

The Stirling Castle is a single-light wall bracket cast in British bronze with a carved backplate depicting acanthus leaf and floral detailing. A frosted excavation glass shade sits in a reeded metal cup at the end of a curved arm, housing a single E14 candle bulb up to 40W (sold separately). The bronze finish has a warm brown base with darker patina in the recesses of the carved detail.

Designed for hallways, staircases and period interiors where decorative wall lighting is needed, the Stirling Castle projects 203mm from the wall and stands 457mm high, giving it presence without encroaching too far into circulation space. The upward-facing glass shade casts most of its light upwards and outwards, providing ambient glow rather than direct task light. The frosted excavation glass softens the bulb glow and hides the lamp outline when viewed from below.

The backplate measures 152mm wide and carries substantial relief carving — a circular acanthus rosette bordered by radiating ribs, with a smaller carved drop at the base of the arm. The bronze casting shows fine detail in the leaf veining and petal edges, giving the fitting a sculptural quality beyond basic functional lighting. The warm bronze tone pairs naturally with oak, walnut and mahogany joinery in traditional and Tudor-revival interiors.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Stirling Castle takes a single E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for period-appropriate lighting.

Does the glass shade diffuse the light?

Yes. The excavation glass is frosted and textured, which softens the light output and hides the bulb outline when the fitting is viewed from below or at eye level. Most of the light casts upwards and outwards rather than directly downwards.

What wall surface is needed for installation?

The backplate fixes to a solid wall with two screws through the circular rosette. The fitting weighs approximately 1.5kg once assembled with the glass shade, so it needs to be fixed into solid masonry or into studwork with appropriate wall plugs and screws.

Is the bronze finish sealed or does it patina over time?

The British bronze finish is factory-sealed with a protective coating that prevents further patination under normal indoor conditions. The darker areas in the carved recesses are part of the applied finish, not natural oxidation.
