Description
This standing pig figurine captures a young pig mid-step, head lifted and snout tipped up. It is made of resin, often called polystone, and painted a soft pale pink with a warm blush across the ears, the snout and the folds at the shoulders and haunches. The whole body is textured to read as fine bristly hair, and each hoof is tipped in dark brown. A tight curly tail, pricked ears and glossy dark eyes complete a face with a gentle, contented smile. At 24.5cm it is a generous size for a shelf piece, big enough to be noticed without crowding a sideboard.
We think it settles happily anywhere a little countryside character is welcome: on a kitchen dresser among jugs and crockery, on a deep windowsill, beside the hearth or at the end of a bookcase. It stands on its own four hooves, so it needs no stand, hook or fixing; simply set it on a flat, steady surface where it will not be knocked. It suits a farmhouse kitchen, a cottage sitting room or a country-style hallway, and it makes a cheerful, easy present.
The resin holds the fine detail of the coat, the creases at the legs and the curl of the tail, and the painted finish shades from pale pink to a deeper rose where a real pig's skin would flush. To care for it, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or a soft brush to lift dust from the textured coat, and wipe it with a barely damp cloth when needed, drying it straight after. Handle it with care, as painted resin can chip if it is dropped. Set on its own at the centre of a dresser shelf it draws the eye, and wrapped in tissue it is a gift that raises a smile the moment it is unwrapped.
