Description

This standing Jack Russell puppy figurine is made in resin and finished in the breed's familiar markings: a tan brown coat over the back, tail and head, with white down the chest, legs, paws and muzzle. The little dog is posed mid-step, one front leg reaching forward, tail curled up behind and ears folded softly over, with dark glossy eyes and a black nose. Its head is turned slightly, as though something across the room has just caught its attention. The surface is textured to suggest a short coat, and the brown deepens around the ears and along the back. It stands 15.5cm tall, measures 18cm across and is 7cm deep.

A figure like this suits anywhere a small, friendly face is welcome: a mantelpiece, a bookcase, a hall table, a desk or a windowsill. At 7cm deep it sits comfortably on a narrow shelf, and as a freestanding piece it needs no stand, hook or fixing, so it can move around the house as the mood takes you. We think it makes a thoughtful gift for a pet lover, especially anyone who has shared their home with a Jack Russell and knows that bright, curious look well.

Resin holds fine detail well, which is why the texture of the coat, the toes on each paw and the whisker marks on the muzzle come through so clearly. Like any ornament, it is best placed where it will not be knocked off a high shelf. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it over with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry, and avoid harsh cleaners that could dull the colours. For a gift, set it on a bed of tissue in a box with a handwritten card, or place it at the end of a shelf facing into the room, where that forward step looks its liveliest.
