Description

This is a small square fitting in black, sitting close to the ceiling line with a GU10 lamp held behind its open face. The trim measures 93mm across and the body behind it is shallow, so there is very little to read from below. Lamps up to 12W are allowed, and a reflector LED is the sensible choice for something this compact. Dimming is possible if you fit a dimmable lamp and pair it with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting.

We reach for these where a pendant would hang too low: hallways, landings, a boot room, a low-ceilinged bedroom, or along the working part of a kitchen. It gives a neat pool of light over a worktop or a doorway, and a run of them spaced down a corridor reads as a proper scheme rather than a line of holes. The same fitting can be put to work on a wall, which helps in narrow spaces where you want light pushed up or down. It belongs in dry indoor rooms, so keep it clear of shower areas and anywhere steam gathers.

The square trim is finished in black and the lampholder arrives already in place, so the lamp is the only extra to buy. To keep it looking right, switch off at the wall, give the lamp time to cool, then run a dry cloth across the black face; sprays and solvents will mark it, so leave those in the cupboard. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the square flush fitting in white as well, and there is a round flush version in white, plus funnel centre and angled funnel shapes in both round and square, each offered in black or white. Lamps are not included.
