Springfield Outdoor 1 Light Medium Wall Lantern - Distressed Black

The Springfield is a 450mm outdoor wall lantern with a distressed black aluminium frame, seeded glass panels and a hand-hammered texture across the backplate, bracket and lantern body. A single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) sits inside the four-sided glass enclosure, which diffuses the light through the textured seeded glass. The lantern hangs from a ring-and-hook bracket mounted on a hammered backplate, giving a traditional coach-house appearance.

Designed for exterior walls on porches, front doors, garage entrances and covered patios, the Springfield provides functional light within a 2-3m radius from the wall while adding decorative presence during daylight hours. The 221mm projection from the wall clears most door frames and windowsills without obstructing passage. The IP44 rating protects the internal components from rain and splashing water, making the fitting suitable for positions that are not fully sheltered but are not directly exposed to driving rain.

The distressed black finish is applied over cast aluminium, giving a weathered appearance that hides minor scratches and wear over time rather than showing them. The hand-hammered texture across the metal surfaces creates irregular light-and-shadow patterns under daylight and further diffuses light at night. The seeded glass has an irregular bubble-and-ripple texture on both interior and exterior surfaces, scattering the bulb's output to reduce glare and create a softer wash of light across adjacent walls and ground surfaces.

The lantern body is constructed from four separate glass panels framed in black aluminium rails, with a pyramidal metal roof and a flat metal base beneath the bulb holder. The glass is held in place by the frame geometry rather than external clips, giving clean edges. The bracket uses a forged-look ring and decorative hook design, reinforcing the traditional appearance. Installation requires two fixing points on the backplate, which measures 191mm wide.

What bulb does the Springfield take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a traditional look that suits the seeded glass and distressed finish.

Is the Springfield suitable for fully exposed positions?

The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing water, making it suitable for covered porches, doorways under eaves, and partially sheltered positions. It is not rated for fully unsheltered positions where water can pool or where the fitting faces directly into prevailing rain.

Does the distressed finish show wear over time?

The distressed black finish is intentionally textured and weathered in appearance, which means minor scratches, marks and oxidation blend into the existing surface rather than standing out. This makes the Springfield more forgiving of outdoor wear than a smooth polished finish.

Can the lantern be mounted upside-down or horizontally?

The Springfield is designed for vertical wall mounting with the pyramidal roof at the top. Mounting it in other orientations would allow water to enter through the roof aperture and compromise the IP44 protection.
