Description
This matchstick holder takes the form of a spotted dog sitting neatly on its haunches, with a sleepy, contented face and the opening for your matches set into the top of its head. We love the small details: closed eyes drawn in fine black lines, a glossy black nose and smile, floppy black ears with pale spots, and a tail curled up behind. Around its neck sits a pink collar with a little orange bone tag. The body is white, scattered with dalmatian-style black spots, and it is made from resin, also known as polystone. It stands 10.5cm tall, 7.5cm wide and 5.5cm deep, small enough for the narrowest shelf.
Keep it wherever you strike a match: on the mantelpiece, beside the candles on a dining table or on a side table in the living room, where it keeps your matches upright and easy to reach rather than lost at the back of a drawer. Its cheerful face suits a playful room, and the white and black colouring sits happily with monochrome schemes as well as brighter colours. It is freestanding and compact, so it needs no fixing and moves easily from room to room as the evenings draw in.
The resin body has a smooth finish, with a glossy shine on the spots, ears and nose. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or wipe it gently with a damp cloth and let it dry. Use it for matches only, keep it well away from naked flames, and keep matches out of the reach of children. Set it beside a jar candle on a tray and it turns a plain corner into a small, smiling arrangement; it also makes a cheerful present wrapped up with a box of long matches.
