Description

Slim, dark and quietly purposeful, this is a narrow black tube that gives you a strong vertical line while taking up almost nothing overhead. It is 4cm across and 30cm long, so the light sits well below the ceiling line and the beam arrives closer to whatever you are lighting. The light it gives is tight and directional, aimed downwards rather than spread across a room, and it takes a GU10 reflector lamp.

We use fittings like this one where light needs to land in a particular spot: above a worktop, over a run of open shelving, down onto a console or a set of framed prints. Several in a row along a kitchen ceiling work better than one on its own, spaced to match the surface below. It suits plain, pared-back rooms where black picks up on handles, taps or window frames. There is no dimming built in, so a standard switch is all it asks for, and it belongs in dry interior rooms rather than anywhere damp or exposed.

The black finish runs over the whole body, top to bottom, with no contrasting trim to break it up, and the fitting is double insulated. For upkeep, turn the power off and wait until the lamp is cold, then wipe the outside of the tube with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; nothing abrasive, as the finish is matt and will show scuffing. It carries a one year warranty. The same shape is also offered in white if black feels too heavy against a pale ceiling, and there is a pendant version in the range for spots where you would rather hang the light on a flex. Lamps are bought separately.
