Description

This is a narrow tube of a spotlight, 40mm across and 20cm long, that reads as little more than a white line against a white ceiling. A GU10 reflector lamp sits at the lower end, so the light stays contained and directional rather than spilling across the whole room. There is no bulk to work around and nothing fussy about the profile; the shape exists to hold a tight column of light and then keep quiet about it.

We reach for this where a bigger spot would look heavy and a recessed fitting is not on the cards: over a run of open shelving, above a worktop, down the length of a hallway, or in a line to graze a wall of pictures. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, so kitchens, landings and studies rather than shower zones or anything exposed to weather. It is not dimmable, which makes the lamp choice the thing that sets the mood, a warm white for living spaces and something crisper where you are working.

The body is finished in white from the top of the tube to the rim, which keeps it unobtrusive on painted plaster, and the fitting is double insulated. Upkeep asks very little: isolate the supply, wait for the lamp to go cold, then run a dry cloth down the barrel and around the rim, keeping sprays and solvents away from the paint. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same spotlight in black if you would rather the tube registered against the ceiling than vanished into it, and the range also runs to a pendant version for spots where the light needs to hang lower over a table or a counter. Lamps are not included.
