Description

A slim black tube, 40mm across and 20cm tall, this is about as pared back as a directional light gets. The body reads more as a drawn line than a fitting, and what it gives is tight and purposeful: a defined pool of light rather than a general wash. It takes a small reflector lamp with a twist-and-lock cap, and we would put an LED reflector in it, up to 12W.

We come back to this one when the light needs somewhere particular to go. Aim it along a run of open shelving, at a framed print, down a hallway wall or over the end of a worktop, and it does the job without adding bulk overhead. Several in a line work well in a narrow kitchen or on a landing, and the long, thin body suits taller rooms where a shallower head would look lost. It is switched on and off rather than dimmed, so it is happiest where you want full output whenever the light is on. Dry indoor rooms are its territory; keep it out of shower zones and away from anything open to the weather.

The finish is a matt black that stays quiet against a pale ceiling and all but disappears against a dark one. It is double insulated, and light enough in the hand to feel unfussy. For cleaning, switch off at the wall and let the lamp go cold, then run a dry cloth down the tube and around the mouth; keep polishes and creams well away from the paint. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same spotlight in white, and the range runs to a small pendant in both black and white if you want the two used together in one room. Lamps are not included.
