Description

Small, black and quietly done, this is one of the neatest ways we know to put light exactly where it is wanted. The body is a plain cylinder, 40mm across and 10cm tall, in a black finish that reads as a shadow on a dark ceiling and as a full stop on a white one. It takes a GU10 reflector lamp, so the spread of the beam is yours to choose: tight for a picture, wider for a worktop. Switching is on and off only.

We use spotlights this size where a bigger fitting would look heavy: over a run of kitchen cabinets, along a narrow hallway, in an alcove, or above open shelving where the light should fall on the objects rather than fill the room. A loft bedroom or a small utility with little headroom suits it as well. It appeals to anyone after the plainest possible housing, and to landlords and shopkeepers who want something tidy that is quick to relamp. At an ordinary ceiling height the light lands as a defined pool rather than a general wash.

The housing is double insulated, and the black finish carries evenly over the whole of the outer body. Dust gathers on the upper edge more than anywhere else; a dry cloth over a cold fitting sees to it, and nothing damp should go near the lamp holder. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam. It carries a one year warranty. Choose an LED rated at 12W or less, and bear in mind that lamps are not included. We stock the same spotlight in white, and the range runs to a larger round spotlight and a compact pendant if you want the same shape hanging.
