Description

Split is a small ceiling spotlight with nothing spare about it: a plain round body in black, 60mm across, with the lamp sitting at the open end so the light is thrown in one direction rather than spread about the room. The proportions are short and neat, so it reads as a quiet dark dot against a pale ceiling and disappears almost entirely against a darker one. Light is aimed rather than diffused, which makes it a fitting for pointing at things.

It suits kitchens, hallways, small landings and studies, and it earns its keep aimed at a worktop, a run of shelves, a picture or an alcove where a broader fitting would simply flood the space. It takes a GU10 lamp, and we would reach for an LED reflector here, up to 12W, chosen to match the spread you want on the surface below. The fitting is not dimmable, so pair it with an ordinary switch and control the mood with the lamp you choose instead. Being rated for dry rooms, it belongs indoors, away from showers and anywhere that gathers steam.

The body is finished in a flat black that keeps the fitting visually small, and it is double insulated. Keep it looking right by switching off at the wall, letting things go cold, then running a dry duster round the outside of the barrel; nothing wet, and no cream cleaners, which will dull the black. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same spotlight in white if you want it to vanish into a plain ceiling, and the wider range runs to a smaller spotlight, a larger round spotlight and a matching pendant, both offered in black and white, if you are lighting several areas and want them to agree with one another. Lamps are not included.
