Description
This miniature mantel clock brings a Spitfire into the room. The little plane banks above a smooth dark green base, and the clock face is set into the front of the base. The plane is finished in grey and green camouflage, with roundels on its wings and fuselage, the letters 9N T painted along its side and a black propeller at the nose. It sits on a slender silver rod rising from one end of the base, so it seems caught in mid flight. The whole piece is made of metal alloy and stands 11cm tall, 9cm wide and 9cm deep, small enough to fit almost anywhere.
Being a mantel clock, it is at home on a mantelpiece, but its size makes it just as happy on a desk, a bookshelf or a bedside table, where the small face is easy to glance at. The analogue dial is white, with clear Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 and slim hands, framed by a bright silver-tone rim. It makes a characterful gift for anyone aged 13 and over, and it suits a study, a home office or a teenager's bedroom.
Inside the base is a quartz movement that runs on one LR66 battery. The battery is included, so the clock is ready to set and use from the moment it is unpacked. It stands freely on its flat base, so there is nothing to hang and no wall to drill. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth, taking care around the propeller and the thin rod. Set it on a desk beside a stack of books, or on a mantelpiece among framed photographs, and the little plane gives the spot a lively point of interest.
