The Sparrowmere wall light holds a teal fabric shade inside a single hoop finished in silver leaf, so the ring draws a clean circle around the shade against the wall. It measures 520mm high and 320mm wide and projects just 140mm, shallow enough for a hallway, landing or narrow stair wall where a deeper wall sconce would catch shoulders. At 1kg it asks very little of the fixing, and the open front throws light forwards and along the wall rather than trapping it behind the shade. One E27 lamp up to 10W in LED sits inside, and the fitting dims when paired with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch.

This is a good wall light for the places a table lamp cannot reach. Fit a pair either side of a bed and you free up both bedside tables; run two or three along a hallway and you get a soft rhythm of light instead of one bright ceiling fitting. Being dimmable, it also earns its place in a living room where you want low evening light beside a sofa or armchair. The teal reads deeper in low light and warmer under a soft white lamp, and the silver leaf frame keeps company with chrome, nickel and brushed steel hardware already in the room.

The hoop is metal with a silver leaf finish that varies slightly across the surface, and the shade is fabric over a rigid frame. Dust the metal with a dry soft cloth and use a soft brush on the fabric, keeping water and solvent cleaners away from both. This is a Class 1 fitting, so it needs an earthed supply and is best installed by a qualified electrician.
