Description

The Sparrowmere hoop wall light sets a mink fabric shade inside a gold leaf hoop, so the frame draws a circle on the wall and the shade sits within it. It measures 520mm tall and 320mm wide with a 140mm projection, shallow enough for a hallway. A single 10W E27 LED lamp sits behind the shade, and the fitting is dimmable. At 1kg it is easy enough to mount, and it is rated IP44 against splashing water, which brings a bathroom or en suite into range with the right zone.

A hoop frame gives a wall light some geometry without adding bulk, which is why we use the Sparrowmere where a plain half shade would look flat: above a bedside table, either side of a fireplace, along a hallway, or in a pair flanking a mirror. Mink is a soft warm grey brown that behaves like a neutral, so it sits with almost any wall colour and warms the light passing through it. Being dimmable, the same wall sconce can run at full output while you are getting ready and drop right down for winding the evening down.

The hoop and backplate are metal in a gold leaf finish, which reads warmer and less uniform than a bright plated gold. Construction is Class 1, so the fitting needs an earth connection and should be put up by a qualified electrician. Dust the fabric shade with a soft brush or the upholstery attachment on a vacuum rather than a damp cloth, and wipe the metal lightly with a dry cloth only. How do I clean a fabric shade?
