Description

The Sowa is a dining chair with a moulded plywood shell upholstered in white 100% textile fabric, set on a matt black powder-coated metal base. The backrest and seat are formed from a single plywood shell with integral sculpted arms, padded with foam and wrapped in fabric with decorative white topstitching visible along the seams.

Designed for dining tables in residential kitchens, dining rooms and hospitality settings, the Sowa provides padded support without the visual bulk of traditional upholstered dining chairs. The 67cm width accommodates the arms without requiring excessive table clearance, and the 86cm overall height suits standard dining table heights of 75-78cm. The matt black metal base uses four legs in a splayed configuration, giving lateral stability on hard floors and short-pile rugs.

The white textile upholstery is a woven 100% polyester fabric chosen for cleanability and resistance to pilling compared to natural fibres. The matt black finish on the base provides tonal contrast against the white shell and pairs comfortably with grey, black and timber furniture finishes. At 8.5kg per chair the Sowa is light enough to lift and reposition for table expansion or floor cleaning, but heavy enough not to slide easily under normal seating forces.

Does the Sowa require assembly?

Yes. The chair ships flat-packed with the upholstered shell and metal base separate. Assembly involves attaching the shell to the base using the supplied fixings. The assembly instruction PDF is linked in the Downloads tab above.

How is the white fabric cleaned?

The upholstery is 100% polyester textile. For routine cleaning, vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and crumbs. For spot cleaning, use a barely-damp microfibre cloth with diluted mild detergent, blotting rather than rubbing. Avoid soaking the fabric or using bleach-based cleaners.

What's the weight limit?

Schuller does not publish a specific weight rating for the Sowa, but the plywood shell and metal base construction is typical of residential dining chairs designed for adults up to approximately 120kg under normal seated use.

Can the arms fit under a standard dining table?

The arm height from floor to the top of the sculpted armrest is approximately 68-70cm, which fits under most dining tables with apron heights of 71cm or above. Tables with lower aprons may require the chair to be angled slightly when pushing in.
