South Hope Outdoor Hanging Lantern - Rubbed Bronze

The South Hope is a 300mm outdoor chain pendant from Kichler's traditional exterior collection, built around a rectangular oil rubbed bronze frame housing a satin-etched opal glass cylinder. The pendant takes a single E14 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) and suspends on an 1800mm adjustable chain from a square ceiling plate, giving a minimum drop of 370mm when shortened and a maximum drop of 2100mm at full extension.

Designed for covered porches, verandas, entrance canopies and pergolas where downlight is needed without direct weather exposure, the IP44 rating protects against splashing water and solid objects larger than 1mm. The open rectangular frame distributes light horizontally through the glass cylinder while the opal finish diffuses direct glare, making the pendant suitable for positions at or just above head height where a clear bulb would cause discomfort.

The oil rubbed bronze finish presents as a dark brown with subtle bronze undertones visible in daylight, darkening almost to black in evening shadow. The satin-etched opal glass is a cased construction with the white opal layer bonded onto clear glass, preventing the brittle opal from direct contact with the bulb while maintaining full light diffusion. The rectangular frame measures 140mm wide by 140mm deep, giving a footprint that suits narrower porches and smaller entrance areas where a full lantern silhouette would overpower the space.

Can this pendant be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?

No. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water but not direct rainfall or submersion. The pendant is designed for covered porches, verandas, entrance canopies and pergolas where it receives overhead shelter from the worst of the weather.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 60W, sold separately. Most users pair this with a 4-6W LED candle bulb in 2700K warm white for ambient porch lighting.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

The chain is adjustable on installation by removing links to shorten the drop from the maximum 2100mm down to the minimum 370mm. Once installed, further adjustment requires re-accessing the ceiling plate and re-threading the cable through the chain.

What ceiling heights does it suit?

The adjustable drop allows the pendant to work in porches with ceiling heights from 2.4m to over 3m. For a typical 2.4-2.5m porch ceiling, shortening the chain to around 600-800mm total drop positions the glass cylinder at approximately 1.6-1.9m from the floor, providing useful downlight without head clearance issues.
