The Sophia is a 600mm diameter crystal chandelier with 13 E14 bulb fittings distributed across two tiers, each tier draped with cascading strands of faceted crystal beads and elongated raindrop crystals. The polished chrome frame consists of a central column with two horizontal chrome rings from which the crystal strands hang, forming a tiered silhouette that tapers towards the base.

Designed for formal dining rooms, entrance halls and staircases with ceiling heights of 3m or above, the Sophia requires a minimum drop of 1260mm from ceiling to the lowest crystal point, with the maximum adjustable drop extending to 2760mm. The 13 bulbs sit within the upper tier and mid-section, each positioned to cast light through the surrounding crystal strands and create refracted light patterns across the room. The chandelier weighs 18.9kg once assembled and requires a ceiling rose rated for suspension fittings.

Each crystal element is precision-cut faceted glass, giving sharp refractive edges that split light into spectrum colours when lit. The polished chrome finish on the frame and hardware provides a mirror-like surface that reflects both the crystals and ambient room light, amplifying the overall brightness. The two-tier structure gives the chandelier visual depth when viewed from different angles, with the lower tier of raindrop crystals hanging free to catch air movement and create subtle motion.

The chandelier accepts any standard E14 bulbs up to 60W each (780W total theoretical maximum, though LED equivalents typically run 4-6W per bulb). Dimming requires dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. The adjustable drop is set during installation by shortening the chain and cable within the chrome canopy, allowing the fitting to be adapted to different ceiling heights without requiring additional parts.

What bulbs does the Sophia take?

The chandelier takes 13 x E14 (small Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each, sold separately. Most installations use warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K-3000K, which provide sufficient light while keeping running costs low. Clear or frosted finishes both work, though clear bulbs create more pronounced crystal reflections.

What ceiling height is needed?

The minimum drop from ceiling to the lowest crystal point is 1260mm. For a standard 2.4m ceiling, this leaves only 1.14m of clearance beneath the chandelier, which may feel low in a living room but works in a dining room where the fitting hangs centrally above a table. Ceilings of 3m or higher give the chandelier the vertical space it needs to present properly without dominating the floor area.

Is the Sophia dimmable?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable bulbs and have a compatible dimmer switch on the lighting circuit. LED bulbs require LED-compatible dimmers; older incandescent dimmers may cause flickering or buzzing with LED bulbs.

How are the crystals cleaned?

Crystal glass can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth for routine dust removal. For deeper cleaning, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water works, but avoid soaking the metal fittings or allowing water to sit on the chrome. Do not use household glass cleaners or polishes on the crystals, as residue can attract dust and dull the facets over time.
