Description

The Sonata is a 22cm pendant light with a double-bulb graphite-tinted glass shade suspended from a polished chrome canopy and cable. The glass is formed as two stacked bubbles, a smaller dome at the top tapering into a larger bulbous base, creating a silhouette similar to a gourd or string instrument soundbox. A single E27 bulb sits vertically inside, visible through the translucent graphite glass.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and hallway entries, the Sonata works best in clusters of two or three across a 1.2-1.8m table or island, or as a single fitting in a hallway or reading corner. The 750-1500mm adjustable drop allows the pendant to be set 700-900mm above a dining surface depending on ceiling height, or hung lower in entrance halls and stairwells where the glass can be viewed at closer range. The chrome canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses.

The graphite tint in the glass softens the bulb glow and adds a smoky grey tone when the lamp is off, contrasting with the mirror-polished chrome metalwork. The glass weighs 2.1kg total and the double-bubble form catches and refracts light at the pinch point between the two spheres, creating a subtle highlight line when lit. The pendant is dimmable with a suitable E27 LED or filament bulb paired with a compatible dimmer.

The 750mm minimum drop and 1500mm maximum give flexibility over ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards, letting the fitting sit 500mm to 600mm lower where the glass is viewed close up. A single E27 bulb fits the fitting, and a 2200K to 2700K filament bulb warms the smoky grey tone of the shade.

What bulb does it take?

The Sonata takes a single E27 bulb (sold separately). We suggest pairing this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to complement the graphite glass tint. Maximum bulb wattage depends on the bulb type. Check the bulb manufacturer's rating.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. LED bulbs require LED-rated dimmers. Older incandescent dimmers may not work correctly with modern LED bulbs.

Can it be used in multiples?

Yes. The Sonata works well in clusters of two or three over dining tables or kitchen islands. For a 1.5m table, space two pendants approximately 500mm apart; for a 1.8m island, use three spaced 600mm apart.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 750-1500mm drop is adjustable on installation. For dining or island use the pendant typically hangs 700-900mm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. Entrance halls and stairwells can accommodate lower drops where the glass is viewed at closer range.
