Description

This stoneware book vase is made in the shape of a small hardback. Green edges frame a front cover printed with multicoloured flowers, a butterfly and a little bumblebee. At the centre of the cover, inside a wavy green border, the words read "SOMEONE SPECIAL in the book of life YOU", and beneath the flowers the message finishes "are my favourite chapter". The spine carries the title "THE BOOK OF LIFE" between two tiny flowers, so the vase looks like a well loved book from the front and the side. It stands 14.4cm tall, 10.1cm across and 4.4cm deep, with the opening along its top edge.

Being slim, it suits a few fresh stems or a small posy on a desk, a kitchen windowsill or a bedside table, and on a bookshelf it sits happily among real books. Even without flowers it brings a cheerful note to a shelf. Its message makes it a thoughtful Mother's Day gift and a warm way to say thank you to someone who has helped you along. It is a lovely end of term present for a teacher too, especially with a few flowers from the garden tucked inside.

The vase is made from stoneware with a rectangular body that stands flat on its base, and its floral artwork and lettering are applied as a decal over the surface. To keep it looking its best, empty and rinse it between arrangements and wipe the outside with a soft damp cloth rather than scrubbing the printed cover. A slender bottle brush helps reach inside the narrow opening. For gifting, we like to fill it with a handful of sweet peas or a sprig of lavender and add a handwritten note, so the book has a first chapter of its own.
