Description
The Sombra Y Oro is a 90x120cm portrait photography print printed directly onto 4mm tempered glass. The image contrasts deep black skin tones with applied gold leaf on lips, nails and jewellery, creating a high-contrast composition that relies on the glass substrate's reflective clarity to bring out detail in both the darkest shadows and the metallic highlights.
Designed for feature walls in hallways, above console tables, or as a headboard alternative in bedrooms, the print works in spaces with controlled lighting where the glass surface can reflect ambient light without creating glare. The 90cm width suits wall runs of 120-150cm, whilst the 120cm height needs a minimum 240cm ceiling clearance to avoid overwhelming the vertical proportion of most residential rooms. The print arrives with wall-mounting ironwork included, designed to hold the 10.2kg tempered glass panel securely against the wall.
Tempered glass as a print substrate offers two practical advantages over canvas or paper: the surface can be wiped clean with glass cleaner, and the image sits behind the glass rather than on a fabric that can sag or warp over time. The 4mm thickness provides rigidity without excessive weight, though the overall mass still requires fixing into solid wall or directly into studs rather than plasterboard alone. The black-and-gold palette pairs with warm metallics, charcoal greys, and rich jewel tones in both contemporary and classical interiors.

Frequently Asked
What type of wall fixing is needed?
The included ironwork bracket is designed to be screwed directly into solid masonry or into wall studs behind plasterboard. At 10.2kg, the tempered glass panel should not be hung on plasterboard alone without stud support or heavy-duty plasterboard anchors rated to at least 15kg.
Can the glass be cleaned?
Yes. The image is printed onto the reverse of the tempered glass, so the front surface can be wiped with standard glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could scratch the glass.
Is the print suitable for bathrooms?
Tempered glass is moisture-resistant, but the print is designed for dry residential spaces. Bathrooms with high humidity and steam may cause condensation on the glass surface, requiring frequent cleaning to maintain clarity.
What's the difference between tempered glass and acrylic prints?
Tempered glass is heavier, more scratch-resistant, and provides a clearer reflection and colour depth than acrylic. Acrylic is lighter and less prone to shattering if dropped during installation, but can show surface scratches more easily over time.
