Description

The Solarae is a single-light wall fitting built around a satin brass rod frame and a clear blown glass globe. The brass backplate fixes to the wall, with a horizontal arm extending 450mm outward, then a vertical rod rising 130mm to support the 200mm-diameter glass sphere. A G4 capsule bulb (sold separately) sits inside the globe, fully visible through the clear glass.

Designed for bedrooms, hallways and living rooms where the fitting will be viewed from multiple angles, the Solarae provides both ambient and decorative lighting. The 450mm projection positions the light well into the room rather than sitting flush to the wall, making it effective as bedside lighting without the need for a surface-mounted table lamp, or as hallway lighting where wall space is limited. The IP20 rating confirms indoor use only.

The satin brass finish offers a warmer, less reflective alternative to polished brass, with a brushed surface that softens the metal's appearance under daylight. Each glass globe is mouth-blown, so slight variation in wall thickness and diameter is normal. The G4 fitting accepts capsule bulbs from 10W halogen up to equivalent LED capsules, giving control over colour temperature and brightness. Made in Italy by Ideal Lux with a 5-year warranty.

What bulb does it take and is one included?

The Solarae uses a G4 capsule bulb, which is not included. G4 bulbs are available in both halogen (typically 10-20W) and LED (typically 1.5-3W equivalent) versions. LED G4 capsules provide the same light output at lower running costs and are recommended for this fitting.

Can this be used as bedside lighting?

Yes. The 450mm projection positions the light well into the room from the wall, making it effective as bedside reading light when mounted at mattress height plus 600-800mm. The visible G4 bulb means you control brightness and colour temperature by choosing the appropriate capsule.

Is the brass finish lacquered?

Ideal Lux typically applies a clear lacquer to satin brass fittings to prevent tarnishing. The finish will not require polishing and can be wiped clean with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes which may damage the lacquer.

How is the glass globe fitted?

The globe is held in place by a threaded collar at the top of the vertical rod. The collar unscrews to allow bulb access and to remove the globe for cleaning. The globe should be handled carefully when refitting as mouth-blown glass can vary slightly in diameter.
