Description

The Solar is a 110mm surface-mounted downlight with a cylindrical white aluminium body, Pyrex glass diffuser and IP44 rating for use in bathrooms and outdoor covered areas. The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) and mounts directly to the ceiling without needing a recessed cavity, making it suitable for installations where ceiling depth is limited or concrete/steel substrates make recessing impractical.

Designed for bathroom zones 2 and 3, covered outdoor porches, balconies and patio ceilings under canopies, the Solar provides directed downlight without the visual bulk of traditional IP-rated bulkhead fittings. The 110mm diameter and low-profile cylindrical form suit rooms with standard 2.4m ceiling heights where a larger surface-mounted downlight would feel intrusive. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust ingress but does not qualify the fitting for direct rain exposure or shower zone 1.

The white powder-coated aluminium body resists corrosion in humid environments and pairs with most contemporary bathroom and outdoor furniture palettes. The transparent Pyrex glass diffuser at the base of the cylinder disperses the GU10 beam angle to reduce harsh shadows while retaining directional control. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. Supplied by Ideal Lux of Italy with a 5-year warranty.

What bathroom zones does IP44 cover?

IP44 is suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 — areas outside the shower enclosure and at least 600mm from the edge of a bathtub. It is not rated for zone 1 (directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure) or zone 0 (submerged).

No. The Solar requires one GU10 bulb, sold separately. Most users pair it with a 5-7W LED GU10 in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether warm or neutral white light is preferred.
