Description

This snake and skull candle holder brings a wonderfully eerie centrepiece to Halloween. A gold snake with open jaws coils down from beneath the black candle cup, winds over the crown of an ivory skull and curls across its brow before slipping past its jaw. From there it loops over a pair of brown spell books and wraps around the base. The spines read "BASIC SPELLS" and "POTIONS", banded in gold, and the whole piece rests on a round black plinth with scrolled feet edged in an antique bronze tone. Made of resin, it stands 25.1cm tall and is 11.2cm wide and 11.3cm deep.

We think it looks its best on a mantelpiece, sideboard or bookshelf, where the coiled snake and the stacked books can be seen from the front and the side. Set on a hall table it gives a spooky welcome as guests arrive for a Halloween party, and on a dining table it makes a compact focal point that leaves room for plates and bowls. The wide, shallow cup on top is shaped to take a pillar candle, so the flame or glow sits well above the skull.
