Description

The Slim is an 85mm round surface-mounted downlight with a cylindrical aluminium body in a matt white finish and a deep-recessed GU10 socket. The 115mm projection positions the bulb 50-60mm behind the aperture plane, reducing direct glare while maintaining downward light distribution for task and ambient lighting in kitchens, offices, hallways and bedrooms.

Designed to replace recessed downlights in spaces where ceiling void depth is insufficient or where surface mounting is preferred for retrofit work, the Slim fixes directly to the ceiling via a circular backplate concealed within the cylinder. The GU10 socket accepts LED, halogen or CFL bulbs up to 50W (sold separately), giving control over colour temperature and beam angle to suit different applications. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations.

The aluminium construction and powder-coated white finish provide a clean, minimal appearance that recedes visually on white ceilings while maintaining contrast against darker surfaces. The 85mm diameter and 115mm height suit standard 2.4-2.7m ceiling heights without the fitting appearing oversized. Grouped in multiples of 3-5 units on a kitchen ceiling or hallway run, the Slim provides even light distribution without the ceiling clutter of larger surface spotlights.

What bulb does it take?

The Slim takes a standard GU10 bulb up to 50W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 5-7W GU10 LED in 3000K or 4000K depending on whether the room requires warm ambient light or cooler task light.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is suitable for dry indoor locations only and does not carry the IP44 or IP65 rating required for bathroom zones 1-3. It can be used in bathroom zone 0 (outside the defined wet zones) provided it remains away from direct water contact.

How is it mounted to the ceiling?

The fitting surface-mounts via a circular backplate concealed within the cylinder. The backplate fixes to the ceiling with screws into a ceiling joist, solid plaster or plasterboard with appropriate fixings. The mains cable connects inside the backplate before the cylinder body is clipped or screwed over it.

What's the beam angle?

The beam angle depends on the GU10 bulb you choose. Standard GU10 LEDs are available in narrow (25-38°), medium (60°) and wide (100-120°) beam angles. For accent lighting choose narrow; for general room lighting choose medium or wide.
