A suspension kit for LED strip, supplied as a five metre run in black, with a profile measuring 21mm across. At that width it reads as a thin dark line in the air rather than a piece of hardware, and the black finish sits quietly whether the ceiling above it is pale or dark. It is an accessory rather than a light in its own right, and it is non-electrical, so the light you end up with is entirely the light of the strip you choose to pair with it.

We reach for a suspended profile where a line of light needs to float over a surface: above a kitchen island, down the length of a dining table, over a long desk or a workbench in a studio. Hung clear in open space, a strip gives broad, even ambient light rather than a tight pool, which is what makes it work in open-plan rooms where the lit area is wide. This is an indoor accessory and belongs in rooms that stay dry, so kitchens and hallways suit it while bathrooms and covered outdoor spaces do not.

Everything is finished in black, which keeps the run visually light and stops the kit competing with the glow it carries. Looking after it is a matter of switching the strip off, letting it cool, and drawing a dry cloth along the length now and then to lift the dust that settles on any horizontal edge; skip abrasives and solvents, which will dull the black.
