Description
This goblet glass in resin puts a grinning skull front and centre, its brow topped by a bat with wings spread wide and two larger bat wings sweeping round the sides of the cup. Look closer and you find fanged teeth along the jaw, a twisted stem that rises like gnarled branches, and small bats perched around the round foot. The back is just as detailed, with a panel of Celtic knotwork running down the middle of the cup between flame-like swirls. The whole piece wears a metallic effect silver finish, with darker shading settled into the deep recesses so every tooth and wing stands out. It measures 19cm tall, 9.5cm wide and 10cm deep.
At 19cm tall it has the presence to hold a shelf, a mantelpiece or the end of a bookcase on its own, and it sits just as happily among candles, old books and other dark-themed pieces. We like it in a bar cabinet or on a sideboard where the light can catch the silver highlights, and it suits a room with a gothic or fantasy leaning without needing a whole scheme built around it. Because the back is decorated too, it works on an open shelf or a table seen from every side, not only against a wall.
The goblet is made from resin, with a plain silver-toned band lining the rim of the cup, and it stands freely on its wide round foot, so it needs no stand or fixing. Resin is best looked after gently: dust it with a soft dry cloth and wipe it with a slightly damp cloth when needed, working the cloth into the wings and knotwork, then dry it straight away. Wrapped in tissue, it makes a gift with real character, and one that will not be mistaken for anything else on the shelf.
