This Mantra silk string lampshade uses hand-wound silk threads stretched around a metal frame to create a 400mm-diameter tapered shade in amber cream. The silk threads run vertically from the 250mm top ring to the 400mm base ring, forming a taut surface that diffuses light while retaining the texture of the individual threads. The amber cream colour shifts between pale gold and warm cream depending on the colour temperature of the bulb inside.

Designed to fit standard BC, ES or SES lamp holders (not included), the shade suits table lamps, floor lamps and pendant conversions where a fabric shade is needed. The 250mm height and 400mm base diameter work on most medium-sized table lamp bases without overwhelming the proportions. When lit, the silk threads cast subtle vertical shadow lines onto surrounding surfaces, giving the shade a textured quality that changes with viewing angle.

The silk is wound tightly enough to remain taut under its own tension without sagging, but open enough that individual threads remain visible when the lamp is off. The shade is designed to fit standard BC (bayonet cap), ES (Edison screw) or SES (small Edison screw) lamp holders. The lamp holder and bulb are sold separately. Check the diameter of your existing base or pendant holder before ordering.

Can this be used on a pendant light?

Yes. At 0.76kg the shade is light enough to be supported by a standard pendant lamp holder without additional brackets. Ensure the pendant holder includes a shade ring or clip that matches the 250mm top diameter.

How is the silk cleaned?

Dust the shade with a dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush. For deeper cleaning, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water, wiping gently along the direction of the silk threads. Do not submerge the shade in water or use household cleaning sprays, as these can stain or weaken the silk.

Does the colour change when the lamp is on?

Yes. The amber cream silk takes on a warmer, more golden tone when backlit by a warm-white bulb (2700K-3000K). With a cool-white bulb (4000K+) the shade appears paler and more neutral cream. The silk itself does not emit colour, but the threads filter and diffuse the light from the bulb inside.
