Silentina 3 Light Ceiling Light - Black

The Silentina is a three light ceiling light built around an open rectangular frame of black steel. A solid steel plate sits flush against the ceiling, and three spotlight heads on short stems drop from it, each one adjustable and each taking an E27 bulb up to 40W. It measures 54cm long, 18cm wide and 20.5cm high, so it reads as a slim box of light rather than a heavy shade. With an IP20 rating it is made for dry rooms indoors, which settles it for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms.

Because each head points where you choose, one fitting can do several jobs at once: wash a wall with light, pick out a picture or a tall plant, and brighten a sofa or a dining table. The open frame lets light spread sideways and downwards alike, which we find makes a room feel more evenly lit. We like it over a long dining table and in living rooms with a standard or lower ceiling, where a pendant would hang too low. The black steel suits an industrial or loft look, and it sits just as happily against pale walls and soft greens, where the dark outline gives the ceiling some shape.

The body is steel, finished in black, and there is no switch on the fitting itself, so it is switched at the wall like any ceiling light. Bulbs are not included, which leaves you free to choose E27 lamps to suit the room, up to 40W in each of the three sockets; clear filament globes show off the open frame nicely. It runs from 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains, and the packed weight is 2.807KG. As a mains light wired into the ceiling, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. A soft dry cloth keeps the black steel free of dust.

Can the Silentina go in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means indoors and dry, so we suggest living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms rather than a bathroom or anywhere near water.

Can the spotlight heads be angled?

Yes. Each of the three heads is adjustable, so you can aim one at a wall, one at a picture and one at a table.

Which bulbs does it take?

It takes three E27 bulbs, up to 40W each. Bulbs are not included, so you can pick the colour and style of lamp you prefer.
