Description

A straight-sided cylinder in taupe faux silk, wide and shallow in proportion, so it reads as a broad band of fabric rather than a tall drum. The outer face is a soft mid-brown with a faint sheen; inside, a halo gold lining catches the lamp and sends a warm, slightly burnished light down onto whatever sits below. At 40cm across it has real presence without much depth to it.

We reach for this one over a dining table or a long console, where the low height keeps the fabric from crowding the eye and the width does the work instead. It sits just as happily on a large table lamp or a floor lamp with a generous base, in a sitting room or a bedroom corner. The host fitting holds the lamp rather than the shade: a GLS A60 LED is the sensible choice here, up to 20W, and it will not need more than that to bring the gold lining to life.

Faux silk runs on both faces, taupe outside and halo gold within, with the edges neatly finished and the whole shade light in the hand. Keep it dry, and dust it with a soft brush worked around the cylinder rather than pressed into the weave; a vacuum on its lowest setting lifts anything the brush leaves behind, and marks are best left alone rather than damped. It carries a one year warranty.
