Description

The Shepherd is a 650mm outdoor wall lantern with a dark weathered zinc composite frame, clear seeded glass outer panels and a case white glass inner shade. A single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) sits inside the inner shade, casting light through the layered glass combination. The seeded texture on the outer glass creates a diffused glow that references vintage gas lanterns without attempting to replicate them.

Designed for front porches, side entrances, garage exteriors and covered patio walls, the Shepherd carries an IP44 rating for water and dust protection. The 245mm projection from the wall means the lantern sits clear of most door openings and window frames. The hinged front door panel opens on a latch, allowing bulb changes without removing the entire fitting from the wall. The shepherd's crook arm at the top mounts to a standard outdoor back plate.

The composite frame construction resists corrosion and weathering better than painted steel, holding the dark weathered zinc finish through UK winter exposure. The finish itself is a granular dark grey-brown that sits between charcoal and aged pewter depending on ambient light. The seeded glass hides the bulb detail when viewed from typical approach angles (3-5m away), while the case white inner shade prevents harsh glare if viewed from directly beneath the lantern. IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, doorways, garage exteriors and patio walls where the fitting is shielded from direct rain. What bulb should I use?

The Shepherd takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-8W and 2200K-2700K to reference the vintage gas lantern style. Bulbs are sold separately.

How is the bulb accessed?

The front panel is hinged and opens on a latch. Lift the latch and swing the panel open to access the bulb without removing the lantern from the wall. The hinged panel also simplifies cleaning the inner glass shade.
