Description
The Shepherd is a 419mm outdoor wall lantern with a dark weathered zinc finish over a composite weather-resistant frame, fitted with clear seeded glass panels around an inner case white glass diffuser. A decorative shepherd's crook mount extends from the wall, holding the lantern body clear of the façade. The hinged front door panel latches shut and can be opened for bulb replacement without removing the lantern from the wall.
Designed for porches, entrance canopies, garage walls and covered outdoor areas, the Shepherd carries an IP44 rating for protection against water spray and solid objects above 1mm. The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing a choice between warm-white LED filament bulbs for a gas-lantern effect or higher-output LEDs for brighter security lighting. The 184mm projection from the wall keeps the lantern clear of doorways and window frames.
The clear seeded glass exterior creates a textured, bubbled surface that catches daylight and softens the light source at night, while the inner case white glass prevents direct glare from the bulb. The dark weathered zinc finish shows a deliberately aged patina with subtle tonal variation across the surface, giving the appearance of naturally weathered metal. The composite construction resists rust and corrosion in exposed coastal and wet climates where ferrous metals would deteriorate.
The Shepherd is part of a wider Feiss collection that includes matching hanging lanterns and larger wall-mounted versions, allowing consistent styling across multiple outdoor zones. The hinged door mechanism uses a spring latch rather than a threaded fixing, so the door can be opened single-handed during bulb changes without tools.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against water spray from any direction and solid objects above 1mm. This makes the Shepherd suitable for covered outdoor areas such as porches, entrance canopies and garage walls, but not for fully exposed positions with no overhead shelter where direct rain falls on the fitting.
What bulb is recommended?
The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W. A warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K gives a gas-lantern effect through the seeded glass. For brighter security lighting, a 10-12W LED at 3000K provides higher output while remaining within the 60W rating.
How is the bulb accessed?
The front door panel is hinged and held shut by a spring latch. Press the latch to release the door, swing it open, replace the bulb, and close the door until the latch clicks. No tools or removal of the lantern from the wall is required.
Is the dark weathered zinc finish real metal?
The lantern is made from a weather-resistant composite material with a dark weathered zinc finish applied to mimic the appearance of naturally aged metal. This composite construction resists rust and corrosion in exposed outdoor environments where ferrous metals would deteriorate over time.
