Description
The Sheldon is an outdoor wall light built from solid brass with a hand-applied aged brass finish, featuring a wide barn-style metal canopy over a clear glass bulb cover and an E27 lampholder. The gooseneck arm curves from a circular wall plate and supports a two-tier metal shade approximately 295mm wide, protecting a clear glass enclosure that houses a single E27 bulb rated up to 60W (sold separately).
Designed for exterior installation with an IP44 rating, the Sheldon provides splash protection against rain and is suitable for covered porches, entrance doorways, garage exteriors and garden walls with overhead shelter. The 390mm projection from the wall gives the fitting clearance over door frames and positions the light source away from the mounting surface. The clear glass enclosure allows full light output while protecting the bulb from moisture.
The aged brass finish is hand-applied over the solid brass body, giving each fitting a slightly different tonal depth and surface character. The finish develops a natural patina over time when exposed to outdoor conditions, darkening and taking on deeper bronze tones in areas of higher moisture exposure. This patination is a feature of the material and finish rather than deterioration. The wide metal shade references early 1900s barn and warehouse fittings, pairing well with both traditional rendered or brick exteriors and contemporary builds where industrial-style details are used as architectural accents.
A separate glass guard cage accessory is available from Elstead Lighting to clip around the bulb cover, adding visual weight to the fitting and providing additional impact protection where the light is installed at head height or in high-traffic areas near doorways.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against water splashes from any direction, making the Sheldon suitable for covered exterior positions such as porches, door canopies and sheltered walls. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or direct downpours without overhead shelter.
What bulb does it take?
The Sheldon takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to suit the vintage barn aesthetic.
Will the brass finish change over time?
Yes. The aged brass finish develops a natural patina when exposed to outdoor conditions, darkening and taking on deeper bronze tones. This is a characteristic of solid brass and the hand-applied finish, not a defect. The patination can be slowed by applying a brass lacquer or wax, or accelerated by leaving the finish untreated.
Can a glass guard cage be added?
Yes. Elstead Lighting produces a matching glass guard cage accessory that clips around the clear glass bulb cover, adding industrial character and providing additional impact protection for the bulb. The cage is sold separately.
