Description

The Shard is an 8-light chandelier built from angular smoked glass panels fixed to a black metal armature, forming an irregular crystalline silhouette that tapers to a point at the base. Eight E27 filament bulbs sit inside the frame, visible through the tinted glass facets, and the fitting hangs from a chrome chain and rod suspension with a max drop of 116cm.

Designed as a sculptural chandelier for double-height entrance halls, stairwells, dining rooms with high ceilings and open-plan living spaces, the Shard reads as a single faceted form rather than a conventional multi-arm chandelier. The 116cm maximum drop suits ceiling heights of around 3m or more, with chain links removable on installation to suit lower ceilings or hang the fitting closer to a dining table.

The 50cm diameter and 76cm height give the chandelier genuine presence without occupying as much horizontal footprint as a wide multi-arm chandelier. The smoked glass panels are individually screwed onto the black frame, allowing light from the eight 40W E27 bulbs to pass through the tinted glass and project sharp angular shadows onto surrounding walls and ceiling. Vintage-style filament E27 bulbs (sold separately) suit the design best.

The chandelier takes eight E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Vintage-style filament or globe E27 bulbs suit the design best, as the bulbs are visible through the smoked glass panels and form part of the visual effect.

What ceiling height is needed?

With a maximum drop of 116cm and a fitting height of 76cm, the Shard works best in rooms with ceiling heights of around 3m or more, such as entrance halls, stairwells and double-height living spaces. The chain can be shortened on installation by removing links to suit lower ceilings or to hang the fitting closer to a dining table.

Is the Shard suitable above a dining table?

Yes. Hung 70-80cm above the table surface, the eight filament bulbs cast warm, multi-directional light through the smoked glass and onto the table below. The 50cm diameter suits dining tables of around 1.4m length and above.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmability depends on the E27 bulbs fitted. Standard filament and dimmable LED filament E27 bulbs can be paired with a compatible mains dimmer. Confirm bulb-and-dimmer compatibility before installation.
