Description
These stoneware storage jars come as a pair, each topped with a lid shaped like an open flower and finished with a round knob. One jar is a soft lilac with an orange flower lid, the other a deep olive green with a pink flower lid, and both lids carry a bright lime knob, so the two look cheerful side by side or apart. Each jar stands 14cm tall and measures 9.8cm across, and holds 410ml, which is room enough for the small things that tend to scatter across a shelf. The outside has a glossy glaze, and inside the jars are a pale cream.
We like them on a dressing table, holding cotton pads, hair ties and grips, or on a desk keeping paperclips, pins and erasers in one place. In a bathroom they gather cotton buds and small soaps, and on a hallway console they catch keys, coins and loose earrings. The flower lids lift away by the knob in one easy movement, so the jars suit the things you reach for every day. Split them between two rooms if you prefer, or keep them together where the lilac and olive play off each other. At 9.8cm across, they sit happily on a narrow windowsill or a crowded shelf.
The jars are made from glazed stoneware, a type of ceramic, and each flower lid rests on the rim of its jar with the knob set at the centre so it lifts cleanly. To keep the colours bright, dust them with a soft dry cloth and wipe with a damp cloth when needed, drying them before the lids go back on. For a gift, we would tuck something small inside each jar, such as a pair of earrings or a few hair clips, so every lid lifts on a little surprise.
