Description

The Saxon is a 5-arm wrought iron chandelier built around a circular cartwheel frame with hand-forged metalwork and beaten panel inserts between each arm. Five candle-style E14 holders sit on turned metal sconces arranged evenly around the ring, and the entire frame is finished in black iron with silver patina detailing on the hammered panels and decorative rivets.

Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and living spaces with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Saxon provides both ambient and decorative function. The chain-suspended fitting allows for height adjustment on installation, and the circular frame diameter of approximately 500-550mm suits rooms of 15-20m². The five candle bulbs (sold separately) cast light outward and downward, with the beaten metal panels reflecting additional light inward toward the centre of the frame.

The wrought iron construction gives the chandelier a solid 4-5kg weight that requires a ceiling joist or suitable fixing capable of supporting the load over time. The hand-beaten panels show intentional hammer marks and surface texture as part of the traditional metalworking aesthetic, so no two panels are identical in detail. The silver patina sits in the recesses of the hammered texture and around the decorative rivets, providing contrast against the matt black iron without the high reflectivity of polished chrome or nickel.

What bulb does it take?

The Saxon uses five E14 small Edison screw bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) to replicate the glow of traditional candles.

Is the silver patina applied by hand?

Yes. The silver patina is applied to the beaten metal panels and decorative details as a finishing process, highlighting the hammered texture and rivets. The patina sits in the recesses rather than covering the entire surface, so the black iron remains the dominant colour.

What ceiling height is needed?

A minimum ceiling height of 2.7m is recommended to allow sufficient clearance below the chandelier once hung. The chain can be shortened during installation for rooms with lower ceilings, though the visual proportion works best with at least 600-700mm of drop from ceiling to the base of the frame.

How is it cleaned?

Wipe the iron frame and panels with a dry microfibre cloth. For built-up dust in the hammered texture, a soft brush works better than a cloth. Avoid water and household cleaners, which can discolour the patina finish or cause surface rust on wrought iron.
